Success! ...?

I feel like I'm getting the hang of this... maybe.

Because I can't just keep things easy for myself, I tried three... four? new CP techniques in my new soap. Basically, I wanted to make that picture up there of the aurora into a soap. So that means: layers, texturing the layers, a mica (in this case bio-glitter) line, and an in-the-pot swirl. Oh and I used neon colours, which are a bit different to use but it was fine.

My bottom layer was white, for the icy landscape, so I wasn't worried about the titanium dioxide (white colourant) making it a bit thicker cause it needs to be thick enough to pour another colour on top without mixing. I neede more TD than I thought I would, but that was okay. Poured in, all good. It had set up quite well so I could texture it straight away. Seemed like two for two so far were a win.

I nearly forgot the bio-glitter line. I got my in-the-pot swirl ready to go and suddenly saw my little jar of bio-glitter. A small panic, but it got there. I had no idea if I'd used not nearly enough bio-glitter or way too much but my swirl needed to be poured so it didn't matter.

Poured the swirl and, not gonna lie, I was really excited about it! It was a tiny bit thicker than I had in mind but it poured really nicely and enough of the accent colours showed on the top for me to make a swirl pattern on the top of the loaf.

I'm impatient so kept trying to get it out of the mould too soon, so some edges aren't as smooth as they could be. Oops. Ended up leaving it in the mould for a full week though. Upon cutting it, I found that the white layer had developed glycerin rivers (not an issue with the soap, just an aesthetic change) but when I remembered that it was supposed to be an icy landscape, it actually works! The only thing that didn't work was the glitter line. Either I didn't use enough or because I added it later it got mixed into the sky layer instead of sticking to the top of the land layer. Maybe both. More experiments ahead!

Anyway, now I have four CP soaps curing in the Lab. One seems to be nearly cured, so the May release might be able to include it!
